CEO AND HEADMISTRESS OF MAPLE LEAF EDUCATION DISTRICT TIANJIN
Mona Tan, a graduate of Dalian Maple Leaf International School, holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Economics from the University of British Columbia in Canada, a Master of Education in Leadership from Royal Roads University in Canada, and is currently pursuing an MBA from Nankai University. She is currently the CEO and headmistress of Maple Leaf Education District Tianjin. She has previously held positions as the assistant to the superintendent of Maple Leaf Education Group, office director, vice principal of Dalian Maple Leaf Primary School, principal of Maple Leaf School - Tianjin TEDA, and principal of Maple Leaf School – Tianjin Huayuan.
Being the recipient of the highest honor medal of Maple Leaf Education Group, she has led Maple Leaf School - Tianjin Huayuan to achieve its annual development targets ahead of schedule several times. In 2019, Huayuan campus became a model campus, and in 2022, it became a characteristic brand school. With over 20 years of Maple Leaf educational and working experience, she firmly believes in the power of Maple Leaf education, which makes ordinary students more outstanding and makes excellent students even more outstanding!
PRINCIPAL OF MLIS-TIANJIN TEDA INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM
Surina is the International Program Principal in Maple Leaf Tianjin TEDA campus, and she is also the System Mathematics Coordinator since 2018. Surina is from Vancouver, BC, Canada, and she holds a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Pedagogy from UBC, and B.Ed. and B.Sc. in Mathematics from UBC. Surina has been an active member of the Maple Leaf World School curriculum team and is a curriculum writer for the ML Math curriculum.

Aaron is from Brantford Ontario Canada. He has been working at the MLES Tianjin Campus for 9 years in various capacities and is currently one of the Educational Coordinators. Aaron is passionate about collaborating with staff to find new ways to support our students.
Mr. Tan graduated from Ontario, Canada. He studied Math and Science and finish the B.Ed. from Lakehead University. He started teaching Math and Foods at Maple Leaf since 2023. He is very passionate about teaching. In his free time, he enjoys watching movies and playing chess.
Mr. Coffin is from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and has been working at Tianjin TEDA Maple Leaf as an English teacher since December of 2012. He is currently Department Head of English 11 and 12. He completed his B.A. in English Literature and B.Ed. at the University of Ottawa. An out-of-practice multi-instrumentalist, his favourite activities include reading, listening to music, and cycling. He reads about 30 – 40 books per year, but has been on page 743 of War and Peace since February of 2022 and wonders if he will ever finish!
Evelyn is from Vancouver, BC, Canada. She joined Maple leaf as a math teacher in 2021. She is the Science Department Head and System Math Evaluation and Assessment Coordinator. She holds a M.Ed. in Assessment and Learning Design from SFU, and Bachelor of Math and Statistics from University of Waterloo. She received her teacher certification and IB certificate from UBC. Evelyn is responsible for system-wide math assessments. She has been an active member of the MLWS curriculum team and is a curriculum writer for the math curriculum. She sponsors Timberwolves frisbee club and Chinese traditional music club.
Ms. Han is a science teacher at Maple Leaf – Tianjin TEDA. She previously taught at Maple Leaf – Yiwu and RISE Academy in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She holds a BSc Honours in Mathematics and a BEd in Secondary Education from Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario. A passionate traveler, she has visited 12 countries, and Boston is her favourite city.
I have been formally teaching for the past four years, and I am currently teaching History and Theatre Production at Maple Leaf School World School. I hold two Drama Diplomas, a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education for Senior Phase and Further Education and Training.
Previously, I taught Arts and Culture, English First Additional Language, History, and Life Skills in South Africa. My passion for creative and inclusive education is fueled by my involvement in community projects that used drama and art to inspire learning in rural areas. Additionally, my exposure to diverse student backgrounds enhanced my ability to foster a supportive and empathetic classroom environment.
I am dedicated in learning and developing as a teacher so that I can foster student growth through innovative and meaningful learning experiences.
Mr. Bass is from Canada. He earned his degree from the University of Western Ontario in Canada. He started his journey with Maple leaf since 2020 and is currently the Social Studies department head. He likes hiking and reading.
Mr. Justin Nie studied Education and Math in Lakehead University Canada. He joined Maple Leaf in 2023 as a Math and Science teacher. He likes music and science. His favorite quote is ‘However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.’ by Stephen Hawking. As an educator he wants to help his students to find what they are truly passionate about.
Mr. Saied is from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from University of Windsor with a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in Statistics. He has been with Maple Leaf Tianjin since 2015 and he became the Math Department Head in 2018. He believes that education is about building confidence and fostering a lifelong love of learning. In his classroom, he strives to create a welcoming environment where all students feel respected and valued. In his spare time, he loves to play soccer, go for walks and listen to music.
Mr. Ndengwe was born in a small town call Ekondo Titi, found in the southwest region of Cameroon. He completed his B.Ed. in the University of Buea. He joint Maple Leaf Wuhan in 2018 as an Economics teacher but presently teaching in Maple Leaf Tianjin-TEDA. His experience teaching in Maple Leaf has been really good. Out of school he likes playing soccer, listening to music, and traveling to other cities.
Ms. Van Zyl is from Johannesburg, South Africa. She achieved a B.Ed from the University of Pretoria and a BHons in Education Management from the University of South Africa. She is currently studying towards her Master of Education in Advanced Teaching in the STEM Fields at the Secondary Level. With a passion for continuous learning, Ms. Van Zyl actively participates in workshops and seminars focused on integrating technology into the classroom, innovative STEM teaching methods, and the development of critical thinking skills among students. Additionally, she is keenly interested in multicultural education and how diverse teaching strategies can foster inclusivity and engagement in schools.
Ms. Racquel Buchanan is from the tropical island of Jamaica. She obtained her educational degree from the Northern Caribbean University and has garnered over a decade of intercultural teaching experience from her home country, South America, and Asia. She is guided by the educational quote, “If my students do not learn the way I teach, I should teach the way they learn”~ Unknown.
Mr. Mel’nik from Oshawa, a town north-east of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He has earned a double major in English and History from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Education from Trent University. He likes to cook, deep travel, read, write, photograph life, and spend time with family and friends. He also likes personal growth, good company, ancient wisdom, white paper, fresh clothes, his old Volvo, and alligator clips. He is continuously inspired by his students who never fail to surprise him one way or another.
Ms. Carter is from Jamaica, in the Caribbean. She has completed her master’s degree with Walden University, in the area of Curriculum Development. She enjoys writing stories and poems, travelling, and listening to music. She is desirous of learning to play at least two musical instruments, completing her doctorate, speaking one new language, and having global impact in the next 1-5 years.
Ms. Chibuwe is from Zimbabwe. She graduated from ASU. She started at Maple Leaf in 2018 and currently leads the Business Electives and Leadership department while assisting with student management as an Education Coordinator. Her hobbies include travelling, reading, cooking and all things business.
Mr. Robinson from Perth, Western Australia. He completed a BA/Commerce double degree at Curtin University in Perth with Distinction averages on both degrees before doing his teaching qualification at the University of Western Australia in Perth. After moving to Tianjin in 2012, he worked in various teaching jobs, including a co-operation program at a vocational college in Tianjin teaching accounting and economics courses which he developed the material for. He started at Maple Leaf in 2020 as a business teacher and in 2021 he started teaching the economics course here. Mr. Robinson enjoys spending time with my family, listening to a wide range of music, reading a wide range of books, and is also very interested in history.
Ms. Wang is from Tianjin, China. She achieved B.A and B.Ed from Queen’s University in Canada and just completed her M.Ed in the area of Educational Studies at the University of New South Wales. She joined Maple Leaf in 2021 as a social studies teacher. She enjoys traveling and listening to music.
Mr.Xi was born in Tianjin but moved to Calgary, Canada where he pursued a Bachelors in English and Education. He started working at Maple Leaf Tianjin Campus in 2019 as an English teacher. Now he teaches classes in English as well as Food and Nutrition. During his spare time, he likes to read and play video games.
Ms. Zhang studied Biology and Math in Lakehead University in Canada, and has a B.Sc . She also completed her B.Ed from Lakehead University. She joined Maple Leaf in 2023 as a Math and Science teacher. She likes to sing songs and holds a singing club.
