  • Are Maple Leaf World Schools certified by a recognized governing body?

As required by the British Columbia Provincial Government, MLWS – KPU is bonded with the British Columbia Ministry of Education.

  • When does the full payment of tuition fees need to be made?

Upon acceptance into a Maple Leaf World School, international students will need to pay their fees at least 3 months prior to their start date, to ensure they receive their Canada Student Visa on time. For students who do not require a visa, payment is due before classes begin. The cutoff date for late enrollment is 30 calendar days after the semester start date. The early bird deadlines are April 30th for the upcoming fall semester, and October 31st for following spring semester.

  • How many intakes a year?

There are two intakes a year, one in Spring and one in the Fall. Students must arrive to school no later than 30 days after the first day of classes of the semester.

  • How do I know if the credits and/or the high school diploma will be valid/equivalent in my country?

The British Columbia Dogwood Diploma and Ontario Secondary School Diploma are curricula that are both recognized internationally and accepted by post-secondary institutions worldwide.

  • What is the minimum amount of credits the student needs to take in order to graduate? Is it mandatory to take two years, or only one?

The B.C. Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma) is awarded to students who successfully complete the provincial graduation requirements. Students require a minimum of 80 credits to graduate. To graduate from high school and receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) students must earn 30 credits. Students are assessed on a case-by-case scenario and put into the relevant classes needed to graduate and carry on to their preferred university major. This is based on credits awarded in previous high school transcripts provided to the principal. It is not mandatory to take two years and students can enter the graduation year of Grade 12.

  • How do you evaluate the English level?

The students English ability is assessed during the interview with the principal in the admissions process. The interview is a 10 to 20-minute interview with our internationally experienced administrators where the student has the opportunity to ask questions about the school. When required students may be asked to provide written samples. IELTS or other similar English language ability test scores are not a requirement for admission to our schools.

  • What is the weekly schedule like?

The school week runs from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm. From 8:30am to 8:50am there is silent reading, 5 blocks of classes during the day and 4pm to 5pm is allocated to clubs and tutorials. There are events and activities usually twice each week throughout the year.
